our organization’s journey

Assist Kosovo Center, established on December 14, 2018, in Pristina, is a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the advancement of democracy, promotion of gender equality, social protection, and empowerment of young people in Kosovo.

Operating under the jurisdiction of Pristina, the organization extends its reach through projects that cover the entire territory of the country. Employing a multifaceted approach, Assist Kosovo engages in activities such as training sessions, consultations, public information dissemination, monitoring central and local decision-
making processes, and conducting lobbying and advocacy efforts focused on gender issues and women’s rights.

Assist Kosovo was founded with support from the Women’s Democracy Network (WDN), established by the International Republican Institute in 2006. The WDN’s global mission is to empower women to actively participate in the political process, equipping them with the requisite skills to assume significant leadership roles in government, political parties, civil society, academia, law, and business sectors. Operating in 86
countries, Kosovo is one of the member countries with Assist Kosovo and Kosovo Network as key entities.

Assist Kosovo, a registered NGO based in Prishtina, Kosovo, aims primarily to enhance women’s participation across diverse sectors by providing them with the necessary skills to engage in politics, academia, law, business, and other relevant fields. The organization has constructed a platform that connects both aspiring and experienced women leaders from various sectors in Kosovo. This platform empowers women to actively participate and assume leadership roles in their respective fields.

In addition to its focus on broadening women’s participation, Assist Kosovo works towards supporting gender equality, sustainable development, and economic empowerment for both men and women. The organization addresses gender inequalities, promotes social inclusion, and adopts a zero-tolerance approach to gender-based violence and domestic violence. This involves activities such as promoting economic empowerment for women and girls, raising awareness about gender-based violence, strengthening equality mechanisms, and providing legal and psychological support for victims of violence and human trafficking.

The founders and Executive Director of the organization have established a robust Women’s Network, connecting skilled and professional women from various sectors in Kosovo. Program managers undergo rigorous monitoring, advisory, and training processes in Organization Program Design. The organization has cultivated strong relationships with national and international entities operating in Kosovo, including the US Embassy Pristina, USAID, EULEX government representatives, local and international NGO partners, local government leaders, and Youth Councils.

Assist Kosovo currently employs three permanent paid staff, and its network comprises 15 members who are experts from diverse fields. Moreover, more than 100 individuals have directly benefited from the organization’s training sessions, consultations, promotional activities, and collaborative efforts. Assist Kosovo’s communication strategy is well-defined, and its implementation is actively monitored, with staff motivation and encouragement forming integral components of the process. The organization’s board and staff members possess expertise across various sectors, ensuring a comprehensive and informed approach to the organization’s work.
